Water Management

Water is becoming one of the most important resources in modern infrastructure. We design sustainable systems for water supply, wastewater treatment and flood protection, laying the basis for safe, high-performing and climate-adapted water management.

Water management in transition

Climate change, water scarcity and rising environmental requirements are changing water management fundamentally. At the same time, energy recovery, the circular economy and the sustainable use of resources are gaining importance. Modern water management combines hydrology, hydraulics, process engineering and infrastructure design into integrated overall systems that connect security of supply, water body protection and economical operation for the long term.

Challenges facing water management

Nachhaltigkeit

Climate adaptation

Heavy rainfall, heat and dry spells call for climate-resilient water infrastructure that retains, stores and uses water intelligently.

Security of supply

Ageing networks and rising demands on quality and availability make modernising critical infrastructure necessary.

Transformation

Existing plant and networks have to be adapted to future technical, environmental and societal requirements.

Regulation

New statutory requirements, sustainability targets and funding programmes increase the complexity of water management projects.

Starkregen
Heavy rainfall calls for a rethink in water management

Heavy rainfall events are increasing and confronting existing drainage systems with new challenges. Technical protection measures alone are often no longer enough. What matters is integrated planning that connects sewer networks, stormwater retention, infiltration, retention areas and flood protection early on. The result is water management concepts that minimise damage and prepare municipalities long term for future extreme weather.

Our capabilities

Klärwerk

Wastewater treatment / treatment plants

Wastewater treatment plants are becoming modern resource and energy centres. We design new builds, extensions and modernisations of municipal treatment plants – from feasibility studies and process concepts to construction supervision. Focus areas include the fourth treatment stage, energy optimisation and the sustainable development of existing plants.

Wasserversorgungsanlage

Water supply

A safe drinking water supply starts with high-performing infrastructure. We design waterworks, wells, elevated and underground reservoirs and supply networks, and develop concepts for treating, storing and distributing drinking water – economical, sustainable and designed for future requirements.

Entwässerung kommunale Infrastruktur

Drainage

Water has to be drained and managed safely even as heavy rainfall events increase. We design sewer networks, stormwater tanks, pumping stations and rainwater treatment plants, and develop sustainable drainage concepts for new build, existing stock and municipal infrastructure.

Hochwasserschutz

Flood protection

Climate adaptation begins with forward-looking water management. Hydraulic calculations, hazard analyses and technical protection measures are brought together into integrated flood and heavy rainfall concepts that protect people, infrastructure and settlements for the long term.

Ladeinfrastruktur

Energy

We develop integrated energy concepts in which water management, renewable energy and technical infrastructure work together intelligently. From wastewater heat recovery and geothermal energy to local and district heating networks, we unlock sustainable energy sources and lay the basis for a future-proof supply.

Kommunale Infrastruktur

Municipal infrastructure

High-performing municipalities need integrated supply networks. Heating and cooling networks, water supply, drainage, power supply and fibre-optic and duct systems are designed holistically and aligned with future development strategies.

Klimaanpassung von Städten und Gemeinden

Climate adaptation for towns and cities

Climate adaptation does not begin with extreme weather events, but already in urban and infrastructure planning. In future, water should no longer be drained away as quickly as possible, but retained intelligently, used and integrated into the natural water cycle. The result is liveable cities and municipalities that secure their infrastructure long term and respond effectively to the effects of climate change.

Klimaresiliente Stadtentwicklung

Climate-resilient urban development

Water will become a decisive element of climate-adapted cities and neighbourhoods. By linking stormwater management, drainage, water retention and open space planning intelligently, we create solutions that protect infrastructure, improve the urban climate and promote sustainable use of water.
